The demonification of dissension
Up until today I always believed that one of the indicator of a dictatorship was the utmost belief by the dictator and the government that they were right, but so right that whoever dared to oppose or dissent from that was at least persona non grata. What normally used to push the nomenklatura to label you as a sort of enemy of the State was the act of criticizing the ideology behind the leader.
Up until now.
Today I discovered the Obama administration has dared to change the rules of the game. Every administration, every leader face opposition, criticism, dissension: it's the essence of Liberty which is supposed to be the essence of Democracy.
So the public protest of the White House Communication Director is, at least, grotesque if not ridiculous. She is protesting that a network, Fox News, had the guts to criticize the President, but when Bush was in power there was no problem about it plus I have never heard such a rant from Tony Snow.
... but she goes further, declaring that the reason is that the Network is the media arm of the Republican Party:
So? Even if it was? What's the big deal? Does she really think it's an adult behavior to whine about that? Besides, it could as well be that Fox News is simply on that mindset and the mindset of the President is far away from it. Wasn't it the "normality" during the Bush administration for the majority of the other networks?
I honestly think it's childish to think that if you criticize Bush you supposedly have strong moral principles while on the other hand, if you criticize Obama then you must be paid by a despicable political opposition.
Furthermore, by saying that, she's either implying that being paid by a party is bad or that THAT party, the GOP is bad, sort of a criminal entity. Now, although she might like to think the latter, I believe the meant the former, but this opens a dilemma... if that is so... then she needs to prove with facts what she is declaring otherwise it is pure libel and Fox News ought to sue her and probably more then just her since she repeatedly uses the "We believe...".
She also proudly says that the President doesn't want to have interviews with the opinionists at FoxNews: so what? Should they cry for that? President Obama can choose to go to the network he likes more, it's his choice. In my opinion, however, he shouldn't lose a minute to go to any network to amiably chat with this or that anchorman. He should do his job and worry less about spinning this or spinning that.
Last but not least, at a certain point of the video here below we hear her complaining that at FoxNews they even dare criticizing the ideology of the President.
WHAT???!!!
So the "ideology" is carved in stones, not questionable; maybe, and I said maybe we can criticize a dress or a grammatical error, but with respect.
Is this woman for real? No, seriously, she behaves like an hysterical soccer mom protesting for the behavior of a bully in his son's school.
Up until now.
