YODA

I've always been fascinated by the character of Yoda, a wise little being, his wisdom and value beyond his size.
So, here are some quotes that made him the pillar he is in our memory:

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

"Always two there are, a master and an apprentice."

"Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try."

      Yoda

...however, at this point, the last of the three Yoda's quotes riminds me a far less deep one, from a far less important movie, "The Rock", the movie is with Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage and Ed Harris; the quote is by Sean Connery to Nicholas Cage:

"Your best? Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen."
     Sean Connery

"wisdom pearl" by Gandalf

"All that you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you."
J.R.R. Tolkien, Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings"

Lord Of The Flies

Today post is dedicated to a book-film review. The title is "Lord Of The Flies", and it is one of the most interesting and extraordinary book I've ever read. No wonder why in english speaking countries, at high school, teachers make read it as a mandatory choice. It's enlighting and it keeps, deep inside, a dire warning.
Some people say the book is pessimistic, in my opinion, it transcends pessimism, it simply swims into the crude and wild reality. Every element in it is perfect, the location, the age of the kids, probably the cruelest age in our lives, 8 ~ 16 years old, an age in which we're supposed to absorb the culture and education from the society, from our families. It has the perfect climax, this book is, as a novel, a perfect handbook of sociology, touching so many aspects of it.
The book seemed to appeal to adolescents' natural skepticism about the allegedly humane values of adult society. It also captured the keen interest of their instructors in debating the merits and defects of different characters and the hunting down of literary sources and deeper symbolic or allegorical meanings in the story—all of which were in no short supply. Did the ending of the story represent the victory of civilization over savagery, or vice versa? Was the tragic hero of the tale Piggy, Simon, or Ralph?

THE MOVIE

The movie I've chosen is the 1995 version, it was a wednesday afternoon of exactly 5 years ago when I've seen it, I was in the Mediateca of my University and I had it on my mind for a week, buzzing and always coming back to my thoughts like a mosquito.
By all means, it has probably the best ending ever! End, that I'm not going to tell here. ^_^
I'm going to leave you with a couple of quotes, both maybe inherent to this book:

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."
Isaac Asimov, Salvor Hardin in "Foundation"

"Never let your sense of morals get in the way of doing what's right."
     Isaac Asimov

pictures will appear soon....

as you read above, pictures will appear soon on this blog, I just need to finish up some settings for my own personal image hosting support! In fact, I found a website to host them somewhere else.
In the meantime, I'm probably through the best morning of this summer, the climate today is superb. Windy, sunny, NOT humid, and, ......I know it won't last. But the bad thing is that I can't relax cos Thursday I have an exam, and I do wanna change my job, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for (U2 are inspiring me now).
I better go to the post office. I know this is going to be the worst post here, hence I'm not going to leave you without a moral:

"If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them."
Isaac Asimov

Wisdom only comes from experience

Have you ever heard those sayings like: "never hit on a colleague" or "never work for a relative"?
I guess so, the truth is, we never learn it till we face the crude reality, till we stubbornly hit the ground named "personal experience" on that.
And so it happened to me: this summer I'm working for my uncle and, well: the saying is more than right about it,  it's sad but true.
As regards the other saying, I can guarantee it's true as well!
So Herman Hesse was right, I still haven't spot one big reason why, but the moral here is: "there's no wisdom without experience"!

Mid Summer....

I know mid summer is long gone, but, perhaps for it rained so much in comparison with the early and burning like hell summer of the last year, I have the feeling this is the middle of my summer.
Finally I start to devour exams again, if I ever done it at this pace, now that I've done the numer of them I promised myself to do I can start working to pay those millionaire bills I left to pay in Florence (yes life in Florence is almost as expensive as in NY) and save some bucks for Spain!!! Yes, well, it's not fresh news anymore now, I'm going to Spain, Córdoba! The day will be the 18th of September, and at 17:10 I'll be landing!
I had to write all this for at least a couple of reasons: 1. there's nothing more than market day in thursday in this sleepy town; 2. this blog was intended to be the chronicles of my Spanish adventure.
I know it won't be as exciting as Stanley and Livingston in Africa, but it will be my adventure.
